error mounting fs with kernal 2.6.6

Good day folks,

I have tried about 4-5 times to get my kernal up to 2.6.6 from 2.4.22. I can still boot to 2.4.22 (configured both in lilo).

But booting to 2.6.6, I continually get the same error every time:

Code:
UDF - fs :no partition found (1)
Kernal panic: VFS: unable to mount root fs on hda1
hda1 is a 10GB partition using the ReiserFS.

reiserfsck -V yeilds the result:
reiserfsck 3.6.14

any ideas??

and by the way, how am i suppose to know if I should make something a module OR included in the kernal?

thanks in advance

maybe someone could simplify the process of using my working config file as a starting point for the 2.6.6. If that would help out, please post, if not, please help.

thanks again.

Kernel 2.6.x doesn't have reiserfs support as a default option, so you have to find it in the Filesystems section and make sure it's checked. (Not as a module!)

make menuconfig will let you load an existing .config file to start off from (which you can most likely find in /usr/src/linux-2.4.?/.config) but make sure reiserfs support is checked anyway, just to be safe.
