Erm, how do I set my system date/time?

How embarassing to have to ask a question like this. I have a Slackware 10 installation, and I'm using Gnome as per the default installation. Nothing is changed except the wallpaper. I have a clock in the top right corner which consistently shows the wrong time. The help for the clock application says that to set the system date/time, I should right-click on the clock and choose "Adjust Date & Time". But no such option is in the menu!

Am I losing my marbles? Please someone put me out of my misery!

On edit: P.S. The system shows the correct date/time when I boot into Mandrake on the same PC. What gives? I thought it would be the same clock....

Run as root: pkgtool
Select Setup, then select timeconfig (almost the last choice) and run it.

You may also want to see: man hwclock

for server sync you could try
ntpdate -v time.nist.gov

I don't know if there's a difference for Gnome, but I guess you could try a man date, to see how to set the system time from the console. Guaranteed to work on every Linux anyway!

Thanks. In the end:

date -u MMDDhhmmCCYY.ss

did it for me.
