enabling internet sharing through network

I just setup a PC for a server. P3 733MHz ; 512 SDRAM ;

Apache worked right away, and so does the network as I tried opening the router IP that's set to that server, and the apache paged confirmed it's up and running.

So that network is working. The internet is not, what can I do to start it / enable it ? Usually when installing slack it would work right away.

i bit off topic but you might wanna try something like:

www.ipcop.org

or

www.smoothwall.org

then configure apache on that. Nice mini distro, good for NATing and firewalls. thats what i use at home

Can anyone offer some advice? I want to share an internet dialup between two PC's, on a home network, one with Linux, one with Win95.

I could use just two PC's, but the one I use (The Linux one of course) would be 'the server' and I would not want the win95 PC slowing it down.

But I could use my old PII266 to connect to the net as the server and then my main machine would not get slowed by the win95.

Trouble is I know nothing about networking, or dialup in linux.

I would prefer to have just two machines, but it would be a pain if I was watching a DVD, or doing realtime audio processing. Maybe the win95 could be the server as it would be less critical IMHO if that was slowed.

Long time since I played with setting up dialup accounts in linux, but whenever you figure out how to do that, use:

(edit: try pppsetup)

iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -o ppp0 -j MASQUERADE

That enables the server as a router, and when you set up your other PC(s) to use the server as a gateway it should work.
