I also have nvidia on Multilib, and installing the drivers is not something I look forward to. However, Alien Bob did warn us that the SlackBuild will not work:

Quote:
After installing the ”-compat32” packages, you may have to re-install your binary Nvidia or Ati video X.Org drivers. These driver packages contain both 64bit and 32bit libraries to be maximally useful on a 64bit multilib OS. If you installed the driver files for both architectures, the ”mesa-compat32” package will overwrite some of the 32bit library files.
and from http://slackwiki.org/Multilib

You need to reinstall binary drivers. ATI and Nvidia driver packages contain both 64bit and 32bit libraries to be maximally useful on a 64bit multilib OS. However, the slackbuild scripts available at slackbuilds.org are not up to this task, so if you already installed 64-bit binary drivers from slackbuilds.org, you should remove these and then use ATI's or Nvidia's driver installer.
I never really understood what we have to do but I did not bother as in my case, the SlackBuild just worked both when installed on Slack64 and Multilib. I suggest sending an email to the SlackBuild maintainer - Heinz Wiesinger is a real expert.

@adam

I've removed and reinstalled xorg-server which contains the libglx.so file you mentioned.

now the output has changed to the ff:

@Chris

I made sure to enable multilib before even installing any of the nvidia driver/kernel with slackbuilds, also for what its worth I've tried installing from the official nvidia bundle, and its the same results, successful installation but unsuccessful initialization of nvidia card.

thanks for your input too btw.

And now you have 3D acceleration. It's not gonna be as fast as an nvidia GPU with proper drivers from nvidia, but that just doesn't seem to be an option. It should certainly allow you to enable desktop effects.

@adam

I've installed ccsm properly from slackbuilds, and while glxinfo would say otherwise, 3d effects still does not work, not even the basic wobbly windows.

Anymore suggestions adam?

I'm using xfce and ccsm, Well I enable compositing in window manager tweaks in xfce settings and I just tick boxes to enable the 3d features in ccsm.

OK, the compositing in xfce4 is just basic RENDER compositing that is controlled by xfwm4 and has nothing to do with compiz. So, in other words, you haven't started compiz at all.

I suggest installing all of compiz parts on slackbuild, but the most important (in addition to ccsm) would be libcompizconfig and compizconfig-python. You would then start compiz like so:

$ compiz --replace ccp &

'ccp' is the compizconfig plugin and is what lets you enable/disable compiz options via ccsm.

Actually as per instructions from slackbuilds I installed all the other stuff as well as ccsm in this exact order, except I didnt install
number *5. compizconfig-backend-kconfig4 (optional) which was optional anyways, and because I didnt use KDE4.

1. compiz-bcop
2. protobuf (optional but recommended)
3. libcompizconfig
4. compizconfig-python
*5. compizconfig-backend-kconfig4 (optional)
6. ccsm
7. compiz-plugins-main
8. compiz-plugins-extra (optional)
9. compiz-plugins-unsupported (optional)
10. emerald (optional)
11. emerald-themes (optional)
12. fusion-icon (optional)

of which the files you mention libcompizconfig and compizconfig-python are a part of.

Good, so what happens when you start compiz with the command I gave? (Or, alternatively, you could use fusion-icon).

well all hell broke lose as i had a root shell and typed it there, lol killed it and tried again on non root, 3d effects seems to be working now, however theres a delay on my text typing and some general lag when scrolling down/up website and this error is given in console

Code:
WARNING: Application calling GLX 1.3 function "glXCreatePixmap" when GLX 1.3 is not supported! This is an application bug!
compiz (cube) - Warn: Failed to load slide: freedesktop

Neither of those errors is fatal, or even particularly bad. You may just need to adjust some settings in ccsm to get better performance. It's possible that a newer Mesa driver might perform better, but I haven't used compiz with an intel GPU in a while.

Enable the window decoration plugin and make sure you put a decorator command (such as 'emerald') in the Command field in that plugin. As for moving windows, make sure the "move window" plugin is enabled.

Adam you rock man much appreciated for all your help, much better than any tech support i've ever had to experience, 3d effects it seems to work and got the windows to move again. i'll look to tweaking it regarding the typing and webpage scroll lag, but you really saved me on this one, hopefully nvidia would fix and support there optimus chip technology sometime soon though, i'm impressed that the built-in intel graphics chip even works as smoothly as this.

Thanks alot!
