Edit MIME types in Firefox

Is there a way to change the Firefox 2 MIME types? With Firefox 1 there was an extension called MIME Type Editor, but this doesn't work with the new Firefox 2.

If I'm not mistaken Firefox 2 runs off GTK, which is tied closely to Gnome. I did some Googling and found that you might be able to change the MIME types through Gnome, but I don't have Gnome installed. Is there a way around this without installing Gnome? Maybe something I missed?

I believe the option is called 'File Types' Under Preferences -> Content

Thanks for the reply.

The problem with the File Types option under Preferences is that you can't add new file types. What ever file types are shown, are the only ones that will be editable. By default the only file type shown in the File Types option is the SVG extension.

I couldn't find too much on how to add new ones in 2.0. I know you can do it in older versions ... that's strange, never tried to in this version.

Only thing I found so far is that there is a file in '~/.mozilla/firefox/*.default/mimeTypes.tdf' that is responsible for the mime types.

Thanks for the reply, I ended up installing the Mr. Tech Installer extension will allowed me to install the MIME Type Editor on Firefox 2. From there was smooth sailing and adding MIME types was very easy.

I had looked at the mimeTypes.rdf file, but that was a bit too complicated for myself. Thanks for the responses .
