Edit: CAN boot into uefi from official slackware64 dvd!
I have a z77 Asrock Extreme 4 board with the latest uefi firmware (2.90) When booting into uefi mode from the official Slackware64 dvd it takes around 2 minutes for the grub boot menu to appear. This can give the appearance of a freeze to those expecting grub to respond quickly. It is not actually freezing as I initially reported

Try using the USB installer image instead.

... Moreover, it would be interesting to know how many boxes can boot with elilo vs grub. I hope we won't have to include both on the same media
PS I'll set a poll to find out.

This is what I did.
Edit-
(Summary)
(Boot into Legacy Bios mode, installed system but didnt install lilo, ran update-grub from a different distro, booted into Slackware, installed grub for Uefi systems according to Arch wiki, use rEFInd).

Unfortunately the usb installer freezes when the initrd is loaded when in uefi mode. I tried booting kms.s from the usb uefi mode and it just dropped back to the uefi menu. The machine has legacy bios mode so I can revert to that if needed. It would be cool to make the most out of the hardware though.

Exact same equipment here boots from DVD no problems. Sorry I can't offer any help.
John
Short Edit: the "Grub Screen" does take about 15 seconds to advance to the select screen. It seems to be scanning all my disk drives as the disk activity led stays on the whole time but the DVD led goes out. Then boots as normal. Perhaps try waiting for am extended time for the select screen to appear.

Blush. I've waited over a year for the release, you'd think I could have waited 30,seconds for the boot menu. All sorted, thanks for posting (and sorry Pat for posting nonsense about this release).

Hope Someone Sees This
Greetings
I refrained from posting as I didn't want to hijack the thread but I was chomping at the bit a little since I have the same mobo and am running Slack14 (as well as Studio Ubuntu, OpenSuSe, OS/2 Warp 4.5, and Win 7). I have 2 questions.
1) Is there some advantage, aside of to the obvious WinTel Consortium, to using UEFI? It seems like cruft to me, at least at this stage of mobo development.
2) Has Grub become the default bootloader for Slackware? I certainly hope not, but if so.....why?

No AFAIK, unless one of your systems requires it.
EDIT. I answered from my point of view as a home end user. I suggest you read this FAQ for a broader scope.

No. But isolinux 4 can't boot in case of UEFI firmware, hence use of either grub or elilo depending on the installation media.
