Echo

I am on a windows machine and I am using putty to ssh into a machine in my office. I am curious, is there some way that I can echo something from my Windows machine with putty and have the text displayed on the linux box on the other side of my office? I know that when I shutdown the box from putty it shows that the system is going down on the linux box, so that leads me to believe that this is possible. Thanks for all the help.

if you are connected with ssh, you can use :

echo " < whatyouwant>" >tty1

to show it on the screen of the remote.
( if it's on cli runlevel )

That did not work. What do you mean about the cli run level?

i mean just a console, no X running.
if you have X running on the remote there are other ways
( ...that someone who knows how will explain maybe)

Alright. Yea no X is running. I typed it in and it seemed to take the command but the text did not show up on the remote machine. :-(.
