easilly changing resolution.

Im running at 800x600 most of the time. but for games and GIMP I'd like to be able to switch to 1024x768 without having to reconfigure Xwindows.

sure ID be willing to restart Xwindows, and even use the command line, mabee pass arguements to startx, but I dont want to have to edit XF86Config every time just to change the resolution.

Configure your XF86Config file to have multiple resolutions like say:

Code:
Section "Screen"
    Identifier "Screen 1"
    Device "** Intel i810 (generic) [i810]"
    Monitor "My Monitor"
    DefaultDepth 16

    Subsection "Display"
        Depth 8
        Modes "1280x1024" "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
        ViewPort 0 0
    EndSubsection
    Subsection "Display"
        Depth 16
        Modes "1280x1024" "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
        ViewPort 0 0
    EndSubsection
Notice the multiple resolutions for my different depth settings, with that in place you can just simply do a ctrl - alt - ( + or - ) to change between resolutions.

Code:
Section "Screen"
    Identifier "Screen0"
    Device "ATI Graphics Adapter"
    Monitor "Monitor0"
    DefaultDepth 24
    #Option "backingstore"

    Subsection "Display"
        Depth 24
        Modes "800x600" "1024x768"
        ViewPort 0 0
# Virtual 1280 1024
    EndSubsection
EndSection
this is the inportant part of my config file and ctrl - alt - (- or +) does not work
