Been using E17 for a few days now.
Really like it so far
Haven't gotten used to the screen edges thing yet for switching desktops
The whole thing seems a little snapper than Kde.
Thanks much to all those involved.
John

That's not correct, you are missing a lot of thing, most notably elementary which is required for the final E17.

That's not true. I've used dev versions of E17 without the need to compile Elementary. Worked just fine.

EDIT: Just tried it with the release version and that compiled just fine too. Using it right now.

You are right, indeed. Elementary is not required, it's conditional. But E17 can be compiled with elementary support, which is the default behavior if you have elementary on your system. On my box:

Code:

$ ldd /usr/bin/enlightenment | grep elementary
        libelementary.so.1 => /usr/lib64/libelementary.so.1 (0x00007f849c583000)

The devs decided not to make elementary a hard requirement for E17. But it will be for E18.

Okay, I'm late to the party here, but today I installed SlackE17, and it is really great! I think this will be my default desktop. Mixes beauty with fast performance.

Thanks a lot for all the work put into this DE, and for packaging it for Slackware!

I just pushed a new SlackE17 release with Enlightenment 0.17.1 and EFL 1.7.5. There are some bug fixes. Minor changes in the other packages: elemines got bump to 0.2.1, and a new pretty nice theme was added.

Hi,
I've been having great time with SlackE17 and now I want to upgrade. What I find in the UPGRADING file, however looks much like a "delete the old, install the new" to me. If I remove the ~/.e dir, what will happen to my personal settings? Will I have to make them again? Can't I just " upgradepkg e17/*.txz " ?

Thank you.

You can just do upgradepkg as you do for other Slackware packages. I advised to remove ~/.e because E17 used to change a lot its settings and it could lead to problems. For instance, the 0.17 final release actually resets your settings without warning at first run.

If you're going from 0.17 to 0.17.1, you don't have to erase it.

Nice update, great new theme!
Thanks, ngc891!

Unfortunately one bug still exists: The EFM window remains empty with some themes, e. g. with blingbling. No file or directory icons are displayed. "Upgrading" to a new incarnation from http://e17-stuff.org of that good oldie fixed it.

Oh. That's not just a fix, it is really a new theme with the same look. BlingBling is not really maintain anymore in SVN, so I will replace it with this one. Thanks for the information!
