DYNDNS - Should it work this way?
Hey, hey! Just a quick question for those of you using Dyndns.org for your home hosting. I finally managed to get Apache/PHP/mySQL all operating normally, and installed phpbb2. However, whenever I would navigate elsewhere except the main page, the URL would attempt to use server.localhost (my host and domain) in the address and would error out.
I use <myname>.ath.cx as my DYNDNS address, so I changed my hostname to <myname> and the domain to ath.cx in netconfig. This seems to have corrected the problem, but I want to make sure that this is the proper solution.
Thanks in advance!

I used the free dyndns service too for a week or so, it was a great service so i decided to shell out the cash for a domain and use them as my DNS provider.
If changing your hostname and domain in netconfig worked then you should be fine. i might have even done the same thing when i used the free service but i forget now. next you will want to make a mail server and you will have your emails coming from <you>.ath.cx THEN that will bug you and you will get a real domain (thats what happened to me heh)

I had the same issue, and it actually has nothing to do with dynDNS. You probably do not have your directories set up correctly in apache. Read the apache documentation on how to set up your httpd.conf file.

**edit**
you also need to configure your /etc/hosts correctly.
Code:
#/etc/hosts
<your IP> domain.com domain

I don't know what you are trying to say, but I use the free service and it works with my mail server.

Update on this. After much reading, it appears that this is an issue with phpBB2, not in any other configuration. You have to set things up like this in order for the forums to work properly using dynamic DNS.

Hi, "shadin",
Glad to see that everything is working fine for you !
Is "netconfig" a file or a specific application of the "slackware" distribution ?
Could it solve my problem with SuSE ?
Thanks !

I'm pretty sure that 'netconfig' is the specific application that does basic network configuration on Slackware. I'm sure SUSE has something similiar, but I've never used it so I don't know what it would be.
