dxr3 / hw+ compilation/config probs
After messing around with various other distros, not finding one that did everything i want... I've come back to slackware :D

After a bit of work almost everything is working great...

Only thing that isn't is my hollywood plus mpeg decoder card

I've tried following the Howto but my xine installation isn't seeing it...

anyone succeded at this?

Aussie 08-22-2002 11:49 PM

Yes....what version of xine are you using and did you pass the --enable-dxr3 option to ./configure?
Also do you have any trouble uploading the microcode?

mr_mandrill 08-27-2002 05:01 AM

Am using the latest version... can't actually remember the version number at mo...

been away for two weeks... so haven't looked at this for a while
pretty sure i was unable to get the microcode working correctly

Aussie 08-27-2002 05:43 AM

The microcode is essential, nothing will work if that dosn't upload correctly. I'm using dxr3-0.12.0 and xine-0.9.13

I seem to remember when trying to set up the microcode that i had two different documents explaining how to do it.. each contradicting the other slightly...

Did you follow any particular documents in order to get it working..

I've gotta reinstall slackware 8.1 from a pukka Cd tonight (after discovering my previous CD had a bad checksum) If I get round to setting up the hw+ i'll post some more details about where i got stuck...

First I did ./configure && make && make install in the main dxr3 directory to get the tools installed, then I installed the modules and made the device entries. Last of all I tested the module options untill I got the tv out working.

I've been following the Dxr3 & hw+ howto...

ran make && make install
make devices (in /modules)

the howto clamed that with v0.12.0 i don't need to mess around with micro code...just need to run em8300init, however I don't seem to have the program...

Aussie 08-28-2002 02:22 PM

If you do ./configure && make && make install in /em8300-0.12.0 it will install em8300init, which is really renamed and installed into /usr/bin along with the microcode and some other tools.

mr_mandrill 08-28-2002 03:00 PM

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong...

I've ran ./configure && make && make install (in the modules directory)

I then seemed to have em8300init

did modprobe em8300
and then em8300init

It paused a while and then timed out...

Is there anyway I un-make what I've made and start from scratch??

Aussie 08-28-2002 03:19 PM

What was the eror you got when it timed out? Can you post it here?

mr_mandrill 08-28-2002 04:03 PM

Microcode upload to /dev/em8300-0 failed: Timer expired

recieved after modprobing em8300
then em8300init

Thats usually caused by an IRQ conflict, I got a lot of those and had to do the pci slot shuffle before I got it working.

mr_mandrill 08-28-2002 04:27 PM

Oh Bollocks!!!

Oh well I'll get the screwdriver...

Aussie 08-28-2002 04:52 PM

Thats about what I said :)
Mine is happily sharing an IRQ with my usb controllers ATM, I had time outs when it was sharing with my NIC and sound card. Don't try it with your video card though. You might need to have a play around in the bios as well untill you find the magic setup.

mr_mandrill 08-29-2002 02:45 AM

Is it gonna be a case of simply moving the cards around a bit..?

I've been putting off opening pc for a while, as it's hassle.. but i got to remove an old modem, also tighten a screw somewhere as it rattles like anything...

How can I find out what it's clashing with??

I did an lspci and got this...
