Install wicd. It's in the /extra directory on the installation media, and in the same place on the mirrors. Instructions are included. You'll have the icon afterwards.

Why were you not able to install wicd?

Did I not point you to the /extra directory on the installation medium or mirrors? That meant you should have begun by looking there. For example, here's the mirror for the 32-bit version of Slackware 13.1, which is identical to the the contents of the installation DVD.

http://ftp.oregonstate.edu/pub/slack...lackware-13.1/

I specifically mentioned the /extra directory, which is there:

http://ftp.oregonstate.edu/pub/slack...are-13.1/extra

So you look there and find wicd, along with some documentation, which you read:

http://ftp.oregonstate.edu/pub/slack...tra/README.TXT
http://ftp.oregonstate.edu/pub/slack....1/extra/wicd/

You then confidently go to the wicd directory and find more documentation:

http://ftp.oregonstate.edu/pub/slack...ADME.SLACKWARE

You then install the packages there. Having read the two README files, you know exactly what to do.

If you need documentation for the package management tools, then just look it up:

http://www.slackbook.org/html/package-management.html

It's the same for 64-bit Slack, except that you would start from the Slackware64-13.1 directory (or your installation DVD, which is meant to be browsed) instead.

And in principle, don't be so lazy as to actually post that you "can't recall the name" of a program you're using! At least start it up again so you can get that information.

Now, this information was in the README files I cited, but here are the exact steps:

Code:

cd wicd directory
installpkg *.t?z
chmod +x /etc/rc.d/rc.wicd
/etc/rc.d/rc.wicd restart

Then restart X, or at least your desktop environment or window manager.
