DVD won't read using slackware-current

I upgraded several days ago from 12.0 to current. DVD worked fine under 12.0 but now under current I can't get any DVD to read at all: they grind for a minute or two and then spit back out. I've tried several different known good movie DVDs as well as a simple blank DVD-R. CDs work fine. My userid is in cdrom and plugdev groups. I've installed and reinstalled libdvdcss, libdvdread and libdvdplay SlackBuild packages (which is what I used under 12.0). And I can't find any messages in any of the logs in /var/log that relate to when a DVD spits out. K3B thinks everything fine when it does its checks on startup.

have you merged all .new files?
try find it by using
Code:

find /etc -name "*.new"

I did slackpkg install-new. Is that the same thing? Results of your find:
/etc/rc.d/rc.inet1.conf.new

Well, apparently I'm guilty of the post hoc fallacy. The DVD drive worked fine under Slack 12.0 just days prior to upgrade to current and then failed shortly after the upgrade. But this machine being an iMac, I decided to boot back into OSX just a bit ago and try the DVD drive. It failed of course. So I went out and bought a laser lens cleaner; it still failed. I think we'll have to chalk this one up to something in the DVD mechanism (even though the CD part still works fine).
