Unhappy DVD device not detected

I installed Slackware 9 yesterday and ran into this rather odd problem. I have a CD writer (secondary slave) and a DVD(primary slave). Installation was from the CD Writer. After the installation, the DVD appears to have completely vanished. It's not in /dev since I tried mounting all the devices from hdb to hdi. Any ideas? I used Redhat 8 for a week before shifting to Slackware 9, so could you please explain each step completely?

Heh.. this has to got to be the shortest of all posts (about 2 mins). I guess I need to re-learn my alphabets. Forgot hdd... checked through dmesg and discovered that the DVD is at /dev/hdd. I dunno if I'm ever going to live down this faux pas. Sorry everybody and thanks.
