Dvd burning so slow , using K3b

I've just started to use k3b, to burn my cd and dvd. It works , but compare to windows it's definitly slow ... For example , it takes me about 10 minutes to burn a 4.7Gb DVD on windows, and 20 on linux . I'd selected same speed (8X) , but on linux it won't go over 2,5.
What's the problem ? I though it was a dma problem , tried to fix it with hdparm , but everything's looks fine ...
My configuration is :

Slackware 10.0
Dvd+/-R (16X) : samsung H520B
Kernel 2.4.26

thx !

Which version of k3b? Have you tried upgrading?
Also, please post the result of your hdparms, maybe someone can spot an anomaly.

I am also having the same problem with my plextor burner. It will burn at greater than 8x in windows but only ~4X in gentoo. I have tried 3 different types of 8x media with my 16x burner. I noticed in both of our infos that the buffer size is 0...could our burners be not detected correctly?
