Dumped Debian for good... 100% Slacker now... :)
Hi Forum,
Now that I know a bit of the inner workings of Slackware, and most of my work applications can be compiled/Installed in Slackware, I decided to wipe my Laptop's HDD and Install Slackware64 13; I am posting from here now, and in the mean time upgrading to <current> I Said MOST of my applications... the thing motif 2.2.2 still has to go, as well as OpenCASCADE, and I will have to enable multilib, and build a 32bit version of Motif 2.2.2 to be able to run Pro Engineer Wildfire 3 in my box... And the Wings3d thingie seems a bit complicated, ( only tried once anyway... ) But The "big ones" are already built/Installed... As soon as I finish the Upgrade I will "pimp it", once more, Thx Shylock... ... You made me a fan of KDE... :) BRGDS |

Nice one Alexvader. I'm lucky in that I have a monster rig w/3 HD's, 2 with Slackware (32 & 64 -current) & one I still keep with Debian Lenny for my wife who I NEVER thought would convert from windows....but it has come to pass.

Slackware is rock-steady, it is my first choice for an OS. |
Hmm, I got splashy to work with Slack64 after a lot of editing of config files here and there, but the progress bar doesn't work. Just the splash picture. I wonder if I should add this in my article. I'll play around with it for a few more times and see if I can come up with something.
EDIT: Got it working. My slackbox now has a nice bootloader and the progress bar works. ;) |
Same here, but I dumped arch linux instead and now 100% slacker. I got my new laptop today and I dumped windows 7 and replacing it with slackware.

The app I am refering to, Pro Engineer, wants libXm.so.3... I have tried to build a slackbuild for OpenMotif 2.2.x from Slackware 10.2 as 32bit, but compilation failed... Will try this again.. BRGDS Alex |

Got it running allright... :)
But I think I screwed up first install... After upgrading from SL64 13 to SL64 <current>, bash asked me wether to update LILO beause of a new kernel image, I answered no, at rebooting, boot up would no go past bootscreen, it would reboot instead of preceeding with normal boot sequence,... DOHHHH:banghead: Guess I screwed up "big time".... Reinstalled with an installer DVD of SL64 <current>... Lesson to Learn... Quote:

If you don't like kernel upgrades you can just blacklist them.
slackpkg blacklist kernel should provide you with a list. I removepkg kernel-huge and keep the generic kernel as a fallback and use a custom kernel for daily work. |
welcome and congratulations :)
