I read somewhere about disabling Hyperthreading on Xeons can improve performance.

This mainly refered to heavily used Database servers where the shared processor cache was being thrashed by one virtual proc thus stalling the other.

I suppose it could be worth a try.

Tasks: 188 total, 8 running, 180 sleeping, 0 stopped, 0 zombie
Cpu0 : 0.0% us, 0.3% sy, 0.0% ni, 17.6% id, 0.0% wa, 4.8% hi, 77.3% si
Cpu1 : 89.7% us, 9.3% sy, 0.0% ni, 0.0% id, 0.0% wa, 0.0% hi, 1.0% si
Mem: 2075116k total, 1600416k used, 474700k free, 24592k buffers

cpu flip

Hello

From what I have seen, processes seem to move from one CPU to another often.

finnaly i get them work !

Code:
top - 17:16:30 up 12 min, 1 user, load average: 1.81, 1.42, 0.79
Tasks: 172 total, 4 running, 168 sleeping, 0 stopped, 0 zombie
Cpu0 : 52.8% us, 4.6% sy, 0.0% ni, 38.3% id, 2.3% wa, 0.7% hi, 1.3% si
Cpu1 : 47.7% us, 5.0% sy, 0.0% ni, 46.0% id, 1.3% wa, 0.0% hi, 0.0% si
Cpu2 : 20.1% us, 2.6% sy, 0.0% ni, 74.6% id, 2.3% wa, 0.0% hi, 0.3% si
Cpu3 : 42.7% us, 3.3% sy, 0.0% ni, 52.3% id, 1.7% wa, 0.0% hi, 0.0% si
Mem: 2072964k total, 1041988k used, 1030976k free, 12792k buffers
Swap: 2097136k total, 0k used, 2097136k free, 413024k cached
i put in lilo:
Code:
append="acpismp=force noapic acpi=ht"
acpismp=force - i used to force using of HT but after some tests i saw that is not necessary

noapic - disable this error:
Code:
kernel: ..MP-BIOS bug: 8254 timer not connected to IO-APIC
and at the last but not at the last place - acpi=ht
THIS IS THE MAGIC WORD !!!

i'm not sure what exactly acpi=ht does.. but it works...
if anyone can tell me what acpi=ht does will be great

BR,
Ross
