Unhappy Dual monitors: changing main monitor from LDVS in laptop to VGA external

Hi everybody I am a Slackware 13.37 with KDE 4.5.5 user in a HP G60 laptop, and I use it for work with two monitors at the office and later at home just the single computer. My laptop has a LVDS1 screen (1366x768) and I connect to it a VGA1 monitor (1280x1024).

So when I plug the VGA monitor to the right side of laptop in extended desktop mode (or something like that), the main screen, the K menu, icons on desktop, panels, everything changes to the VGA screen and I want all the stuff to stay in the LVDS1 monitor. I try to do that in the Monitor and display preferences but I can't find the right option and even I don't know if there is any file to do this, I searched in Google but for now I can't find nothing.

So:

LDVS is the number 2 monitor and I want it to be 1
VGA is the number 1 monitor and I want it to be 2

I don't have really a problem with this but is very annoying , because I really need a big screen for work.

In some forums say that it is necessary edit the file /etc/X11/xorg.conf but in others they say that in slackware this file is not used and in my system there is not such file.

Thanks.

I use xrandr which I found very useful for this. For you I would type something like this in terminal:

xrandr --output LVDS1 --auto --primary --output VGA1 --auto --right-of LVDS1

LVDS1 is now the primary and VGA1 is the expanded screen.
