Dual core not detected

Hello everyone, I'm new here. I've just installed Slack 14.2 on my old DEL XPS M1210. It seams great excepting only one processor is recognized the other one is lost. What can I do ? Thanks

The Slackware i586 comes with TWO types of kernel. The SMP ones are for multiple core processors (or even multiple processors) while the others are for single core processors.

Most likely you booted using a second type kernel.

You did use Slackware64 ISO?

EDIT: My mistake, I was thinking about the T4300 so you should use Slackware 14.2.
Be sure to verify your downloaded ISO with the available .md5 file at the download site.

Hope this helps.
Have fun & enjoy!

This laptop is 32 bit only, from Windows XP era, so probably the OP used the old good Slackware (i586).

I know! That is why I made the edit to my post to indicate the T4200 is 32 bit, at first I was thinking about the T4300. So Slackware 14.2 would be the correct ISO to install.

Hope this helps.
Have fun & enjoy!

I am afraid that he already installed the Slackware in a proper way, but somehow he chose to use the legacy i486 kernel, aka the non-SMP one, then the system use only one CPU core, as you guess...

PS. Maybe my English is not enough, but that's idea: we should make the OP to use the SMP kernel.

Edit the file /etc/lilo.conf. Near the bottom, you'll find a line that looks like this:

image = /boot/vmlinuz-huge-4.4.14

Change it to say this instead:

image = /boot/vmlinuz-huge-smp-4.4.14

Then run "lilo" and reboot.

Thank you guys,

I solved the problem booting with a generic SMP kernel. And yes ! I meet Slackware and I'll never go back !
