Hi, I am using a dual core desktop with 500 gigabytes of hard disk space.

The XP distro came with the computer, but is virus crippled. It now has 23 gigs of memory in the new partition. Awkwardly done. For I put on Mint 9 before the new partition and Ultimate Edition after.

So Ultimate Edition, 2.6 for gamers is going with about 200 gigs, and between XP and Mint is a vacuum of 80 gigabytes memory free. I heard Slackware needs lilo and dual booting is not simple. Is there a link to a set of instructions, also I may want to use the 80 gbs for Slackware. So manual partitions.

I want to put Fedora 13 on in a couple of days.

Which slackware distro is best? Why did you choose yours? I like ssursurfing the websurfing the web youtube,looking at web design, office work, telephony.

you could also use grub or grub2 instead of lilo
I dont have windows so cant comment on dual boot.

Slack's a great choice though
and slack doesn't have many livecd's

#1 would probably SalixOS; which is pretty close to all-slack

Slackware defaults to installing Lilo, but it is not required to boot Slackware. If you already have another Linux distro installed that uses GRUB, when you install Slackware you can tell it not to install another boot loader. Then you can add an entry in your GRUB configuration to boot the Slackware install.

my advice is to install slackware to ur 80 gb partition,
u can use the swap of linux mint.

and install lilo to the root partition of slacware.
i hope u r now using grub of the linux mint, for dual booting with xp,
then chainload the slackware entry in the grub of linux mint. (this is the easiest way and advantages are many)

then your menu.lst should have 3 main entries
1. corresponds to linux-mint
2. slackware- chainloaded
3. windows - chainloaded

i hope u r going to install fedora 13 on the same space. in that case please try with slackfore some time and configure it completely and then remove

edt: chainload entries should have a form like this
where x has to be replaced by the corresponding partition number.

Solved my particular issue, easier than I thought. Chainloading Slackware works a charm, all I had to do was add it to my /boot/grub/menu.lst and it fired right up. Hope things work out for you!
