i "liked" using gnome and was really dissappointed when 11 stopped supporting it...
then i tried 12 just to see what HAL was like and then i thought i'd throw gnome from 10.1 on top of it...
in the process of *trying* to do that i discovered dropline and now there is simply no turning back...
dropline gnome is everything vanilla gnome could only dream of being only more so, it's like comparing wayne grensky to high school hockey, it's like everything is all setup for you, it runs like a dream.
i confess... i am now "spoiled"...

I brought this here cuz I didn't want to hi-jack the other thread anymore than necessary. I took a look at their website and some of the screenshots look pretty good. I think I'll give it a shot when I get some time on my hands.
I thought Dropline looked pretty cool too. And it installed without a hitch. Almost 'too easy'..
The trouble started when I decided to un-install it. What a disaster.
Dropline replaces LOTS of original Slack libraries and files with it's own versions of things, which in my experience made it very tricky updating things properly; hard to figure out which libraries were being used for what, and when, and caused EVERYTHING to break after uninstalling it. I eneded up reinstalling most/all of my Slackware OS to get it back to normal.
.. Just my experience with it, for you to consider before going for it.
Best of success
GrapefruiTgirl, that may have been true in the past, but right now, Dropline 2.18.3 [still beta I think](For Slackware 12.0) only replaces eight stock Slackware packages.
Personally, I don't recall having any trouble whatsoever uninstalling Dropline from a Slack Box. They provide very clear instructions on their web forum, and likely in their wiki as well (though I haven't looked.)
@ Truthfatal - Thanks for that updated info; it has been approximately 6 months since I tried Dropline on my Slack 11 system, so they must really be working hard at it to improve it such as you describe. Sounds like a vastly improved installation over the one I was using, which I believe was also a BETA (not sure now of the version, can't remember that far back )
Thekid, do let us know if you try it out and how it goes!
I have been a Dropline user in the past and I must say it is a very good distro, I never had any issues with it. However, I'm now totally sold on XFce 4.4.1:-)
I love XFce on Slackware and FreeBSD!
Hmm, perhaps I will wait until it's not a beta to give it a try. Things are working perfect right now and I am depending too much on my machine for college to risk the downtime in the event something goes wrong ATM.
It should not affect your KDE. However, I heard that it may mess up GNOME menu.
NOTE: I only use Dropline GNOME, so KDE is explicitly not installed in my system. Hence, I only heard what other users had said about this issue, not my experience.
Without speaking specifically for Slack 12, I can say that KDE was still perfectly fine and unchanged when I installed Gnome on my system (Slack 11), and plus, in general, KDE and Gnome applications and programs will run interchangeable on either desktop environment, the exceptions being for example a Gnome program that requires some GTK librarie(s)s for its GUI, that KDE doesn't have. It's usually just a matter of installing the missing piece, and I have done it many times, and currently use a selection of KDE and Gnome items in KDE without issue.
