Dropline gnome libiconv.so.2 error

I tried to upgrade the dropline gnome installer.

After logging off of the machine, I received the following error and can not log on to my machine:

error while loading shared libraries: libiconv.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Any thoughts on how to get around this

err...

Download the libiconv libs maybe?

I had the same problem, this fixed it.

You can find it here: http://www3.linuxpackages.net/packag...-i686-1jim.tgz

I had that, libiconv is a character conversion library which is "also provided by glibc" according to it's package description. Perhaps the intention was to do without it somehow - something in ldconfig? or is there a part of glibc that we could symlink to...

ln -sf [glibc_file] libiconv.so.2

perhaps?

Jeb1337,

as root type this in a term...

installpkg somepackage.tgz

while working in the directory that has the package.

Maybe you should read this....

http://www.slackware.com/book/index....rce=c3984.html

and after you read that... read the whole book.

Oh and just to fallow up on this thread...

THIS IS IMPORTANT!!!

To rid yourself of libiconv forever (which you WANT to do)

Uninstall the libiconv package... never install it again.

reinstall glibc with the "upgradpkg --reinstall [package].tgz" command.

Recompile any programs that you compiled against libiconv. Normal slackware packages will work out of the box because they are not compiled against libiconv, it is just the programs that you compiled while having libiconv installed that might break when removing the libiconv package. Mplayer is such a program. After you rebuild the programs, they should work fine, hell they should even run smoother from what I understand. This (in theory) should fix the dropline installer too.

Hope this helps someone.

Thanks for the wisdom slackMeUp, that helps alot!

Jeb1337: in case you were wondering, libiconv was a package supplied with gnome 2.4, it is now depracated (no longer used) in gnome 2.6.

edit: 5 hours later... I found it fixes my multimedia keys as well (Desktop Preferences->Keyboard Shortcuts), I can kiss acme goodbye at last!

Thanks, actualy I found out you can fix the problem just by Alt-F6ing out of the bootup and running the dropline-installer in case anyone was still interested. That should fix everything and update for you. Thanks everyone...

Thumbs up

Hey slackMeUp,

Thanks for the tip!
I had already removed libiconv (that son of a b**ch) and was worried about getting AviDemux going.
Reinstalling glibc did the trick!

I can go to SLEEP now!!!

see ya
