I have a lab of about 30 machines with dropline gnome installed. I had no problems with the vanilla Gnome included with Slackware 9.0 but upgraded for some of the additional features in dropline. I would NOT recommend using it in a work environment. I'm waiting patiently for slackware 9.2 or 10 to come out so I can reimage the machines using the stock gnome in Slackware. I've had unending problems with device permissions and other weirdness related to PAM. For a single user machine there would probably be little problem, if any, but it's a headache dealing with it with hundreds of user accounts. FWIW, I have successfully extracted dropline from a working system and restored the appropriate original Slackware packages but it is not a simple task.
I'm not trying to trash dropline. It is a very good effort at maintaining an up-to-date gnome and works well with only one user on the machine. I just with the maintainer kept the same philosophy as Mr. Volkerding regarding pam.
