1st things first, installed Slack 9 using Gnome 2 and it is without a doubt my best desktop linux experience to date.
So, hearing about Dropline I thought I'd give it a try. Installed with little hassle, except for a font package not being found. Also, my Nautilus and Mozilla icons have vanished. But, those are minor problems, really.
My question? What's the big deal? I see NO difference between Gnome 2 from standard Slack 9 install and the Dropline experience. Is Dropline standard in Slack 9 now? Did I already have it without knowing?
Dropline is just a different way to install and update most of the packages for Gnome in Slack. You would have noticed a difference if you were using Slack 8.1 as it didn't use Gnome 2.
You should read more at their site as they explain what they do and what dropline does specifically. But there's probably not much difference you've seen since Slack 9 already comes with Gnome 2.
This IS the Linux experience I've been waiting for! Slack 9 is without a doubt the best distro I have ever installed. I've bounced between Windows and Linux (in various forms) for a few years now, and I can say without a doubt that I'm never going back to Windows (@ least @ home, that is!)
xgtr - i suggest you visit the dropline forums;
evolution has been discussed there several
times; the solution to your problem might
be amongst the posts. good luck.
Evolution shouldn't be no problem running on Slack 9 with dropline. Feel free to post any questions you may have here, as someone will be of help most likely.
Im posting this from slack 9 with dropline. I will cheerfully admit that with little effort the fonts are awesome once you upgrade to dropline. But really thats not that hard to do anyway...
On the other hand im trying very very hard to like Gnome period... but honestly it just nothing but gets in my way and Piss*s me off Dont get me wrong it LOOKS a great story...but everytime you turn around there is some little thing that just really anoys me... KDE on the other hand pretty much just works Anyhow glad ya like Dropline.
hi all.. i am trying to make my slackware 9 better... and i came over this forum.. just wondering wat dropline is? can anybody just tell me in english wat it is and wat it does.. and maybe where i can download it and how i would install it.. i am a noob so go easy on me... and any other suggestions on how i could make my slackware 9 better? Thnx all!
Hello Saiz,
Dropline systems: http://www.dropline.net/gnome/ What they do is package a very easy to install version of Gnome Desktop. Gnome is a very popular desktop, along with KDE. Dropline just takes an already slick desktop and slicks it up some more in a few little areas: different fonts, icons... mostly eyecandy.
