Dropline GNOME

I have been using Slack 10.0 for a few weeks now, and have just started to see people talking about Dropline GNOME. Is it really worth installing that instead of using the standard GNOME? How is it different?

Dude,

I am in the same boat as you. I am a recent convert to Slcakware 10 since it came out, I had been running FC1&2 and MDK10. But they left me unfulfilled. Anyhow I have switched to Slack and never looked back.

Last night in fact I installed Dropline and have been extremely pleased. I love it. Bascially it is a Slackware tailored, modified GNOME optimized for i686 processors (PIII,IV, Athlon, and equivilents). Instead of menus jam packed wit a bunch of software that you will never use it gives a best in breed selection. Very professional look. It also installs great fonts and multimedia apps.

Some people here have complained that it hosed their slack system but i have not had any issues. I can even use my old custom KDE desktop if I want just by changing the DE in gdm. Also, make sure you are set to use gdm if you plan on installing dropline.

Other than that visit www.dropline.net and look around.

I have used dropline and I have not used it... I like the packages it installs, I am currently running it.. if you like gnome give it a shot and form your own opinion. If you dont use gnome or dont like gnome.. dont bother :)
