Drive shortcuts on desktop in KDE 3.5.9

I would like to have a drive shortcut appear on the desktop for removable media only when it is mounted in KDE 3.5.9 in Slackware 12.1. I remember this used to automatically happen in previous versions of KDE in Slackware, so I never knew what to look for when these drive shortcuts do not appear on the desktop. Again, I only would like a drive shortcut to appear on the desktop for removable media (CD-ROM, USB drives, etc) only when these devices are automounted. Thanks.

They did NOT appear automatically in Slackware 12.0. I'm not sure if the steps are exactly the same (I'm still on 12.0), but it should be something like the following. Right-click on the desktop>"Configure Desktop". Click Behavior>"Device Icons". Make sure "Show device icons" is checked and check all of the devices you want to show a device icon on the desktop.
