download slackware 15 32 bit

Is there a 32 bit version of slackware 15 with a gui and if yes where can i download it?

Search for Slackware mirrors and glance through one. The directory labelled slackware-15.0 is 32-bit. The 64-bit one is called slackware64-15.0.

Or via torrent if you prefer. https://seedbox.slackware.uk/

It might be worth noting that some packages in 32 bit Slackware 15 require an SSE2 capable CPU:

Unless your 32 bit CPU has support for SSE2 you might want to use an older version of Slackware.

Thank you, i was confused that 32 was not in the name of the iso. I have an old laptop that does not support pae. I will try if Slackware works on it. I tried Slackware 14.2 with 1 cd, but it did not give me a gui.

This "no gui" problem might deserve its own thread.

And this one a [SOLVED] mark :)

My Thinkpad T42 is 32 bit only and does not support pae. It runs Slackware 15.0 OK.

When I booted from the .iso I had to type 'huge.s' at the boot prompt to get the non-pae kernel. Then I was able to complete the installation.

Slackware is one of the very few distributions supporting 32-bit non-pae hardware for which I am grateful.

There is a sticky thread on this forum, I'm surprised no one has mentioned it

The installation process only consist of text based menus, no point and click. Also, before entering those menus you are supposed to manually partition your HD.

Once Slackware is installed you can get to the gui with "startx", but before doing so, it is better to create and use a normal user account instead of running startx as root.

You need 5 cds to install all of Slackware 14.2. One cd does not give you much.

rvqx 04-22-2023 07:35 AM

One cd of Slackware 14.2 doesn`t give me a gui. The complete Slackware 15 gives a gui, but takes too much of my 16 gb hdd. So i stick to AntiX 22 base and for playing videos i use Puppy tahr 6.0.5.that includes VLC. Anyway thank you for your help.

You could try AlienBob's slimmed xfce liveslak version: https://download.liveslak.org/latest/

Be aware that quite a lot of a full slackware install is missing, so you may want to add whatever you need. And it's based on slackware-current.

Since it's are live versions, try it out. If it fit your needs you can install.
