Down prints a -

I have Slack 10.2. Whenever I press the down arrow in a text editor, it prints a slash "-" and then moves the cursor down. How do I get this to stop?

Thanks.

Does this happen in every text editor?

Does this happen in other apps (such as openoffice, xterminal, etc)?

Does this happen in X only or does it happen in the console as well?

Happens in any text editor, EMACS, KDevelop, etc and it also happens if I do EMACS, VIM, etc from the console.

Why don't you try with another keyboard layout? Go to Control Center/ Regional and Accessibility/Keyboard Layouts (if you use KDE).

I was just about to suggest that. It seems that you're using the wring keyboard layout. Are you using a non-us keyboard?

I tried playing with different KDE keyboard settings as per your suggestions. No luck there. Doesnt that simply change the XORG.CONF file? This problem occurs outside of x-window. This problem also happens when I boot the box to command line. More information:

I cannot type an apostrophe
If I type a 1 on the 10-digit keypad (on the right of the keyboard) it will print a 13 on the screen.
a 3 on the keypad displays a 13 on the screen also.
a 4 on the keypad displays a 46 on the screen etc.
8,5,2, and 0 are all okay

I just put my system on a KVM a little while ago, and I am using this keyboard for the KVM. The same problems occur in windows as well!! Weird. Suggestions?

There's got to be something wrong with your KVM. If it happens under two different OSs then the only commonality is the hardware. Can you bypass the KVM and see if that works?

It happened before I had the KVM. I just put the KVM in yesterday.
