Hi,

digger95, the thing you have to your advantage is the 'FLOSS'. You can have access to a lot of specific FLOSS to assist you in acquiring added experience. That way you can gain proficiency with out major $$. Your time is the money in the bank at that you can spend as you wish to get to your goal.

As Sasha pointed out the GIS KNOPPIX and you found another distro specific GIS. The paths are there for you to follow to get the needed exposure.
