Does any one else get an 'extra' window when using TWM and starting VirtualBox GUI ?

Hello folks

When using TWM as the window manager and starting VirtualBox gui (e.g. typing 'virtualbox' in an xterm window), another window is started (titled 'VirtualBox') before the gui (titled "Oracle VM VirtualBox Manager") is drawn.

This additional window does not have any contents - its hidden or empty or whatever, only its title bar is visible; when trying to move the title bar the TWM outline indicates its over quite a large area.

One 'problem' with this, is that when you quit the gui, this other window remains and keeps some processes attached and running.

In any other window manager I have tried, this other window does not seem to appear, or its being handled differently if it does get instantiated. When the gui is quit, all the processes end with none lurking around as above.

I would appreciate someone taking a quick test to try TWM and start virtualbox gui and let me know if they get the same experience as described above please ?

I wonder what's going on - its as if TWM is grabbing something, unlike in other managers, before virtualbox has a chance of handling it...whatever 'it' is.

Thank you

Edited: some punctuation (but its still poor :-) )

Hello,

I just tried although in Slint64-4.2.1 not in Slackware 14.2 (that I assume you are using, but please confirm) and didn't observe this behavior. I have just one window with the full title.

hi Didier thanks for trying it out for me.

Sorry I should have mentioned I am using Slackware 64 14.2 with all updates applied inc. latest virtualbox from SBo. I have now tried the OP scenario on 3 different computers and each exhibits same outcome.

On one, the additional 'spurious' window's title bar was up tight in the left corner, compressed to almost being invisible; almost missed it - fortunately it appears in the TWM icon manager to give it away.

This does not happen in any other win.mgr. , only in TWM. I even cleared out my TWM config file and used the system default and it still did it. Ive uninstalled virtualbox, removed any config files I could find and reinstalled and it still does it. Strange.

Regards
