Well, at least the r8168 for the RTL8168/8111 PCIe NICs is just a plain GPLv2 FOSS driver and performing way better than the in-kernel r8169 driver (originally written for an age-old PCI controller and then heavily customized).

Very true.

There are several other drivers as well from other OEMs as well, several of which are on SlackBuilds.org luckily. One is a RaLink driver I think, and a few others are some various printer drivers, last I looked.
