dmesg HELP
 

these are the last lines of dmesg. I think something is wrong but am not sure what exactly? So not knowing what the problem is, its a bit difficult to look around for any answer.

It's obvious that the first lines have to do with alsa, but i am not sure what the problem is since sound works for me without a problem tho sometimes a bit cracky.

As for the last bit i guess something to do with AGP video card, tho still am not sure whether i need to do any configuration in order not to get this message.

Any help will be welcomed, or at least to point me at the right direction where to look for answers.

It seems the kernel is not detecting your hardware 100%. Which kernel version are you using and did you compile it yourself? Also, could you print the output of "lspci" (as root) to give us more clues :)

Not sure why its not detecting properly, the only alternative I can think of is to dig around in /proc and find the apropriate apperture size and apply it. You'll have to do a bit of homework on that though 'cos I can't remember how to do it!

Remember, /proc is a pseudo filesystem that is realtime!. start in /proc/driver/nvidia/agp/ and see what it says, then /proc/bus/pci/devices. I have entries in those that pertain to agp stuff.

i tried to do my homework but didn't have much sucess mostly because my lack of knowledge what to look for. But followed your advice and looked at /proc. there were 3 files under /proc..../agp with these information

So i don't know where to look for the apperture size and where to apply it. You can tell i am a newbe. So any other suggestions will be very helpful.

If you look at status again it says:

It appears to be in 8x mode so don't worry about it :~]

Remember /proc is realtime real process and hardware information - it usually means what it says!

edit: not too sure about "fast writes" though! do a search on these forums for more info.

edit2: mybe "registers" in the "card" section are the addresses we are looking for?

As far as I know this is the amount of ram in your video card.

So the apeture size is for example 64M or 128M
you might like to see if this setting is correct in your bios

i also get an similar msg error...
and dunno what does it meam, i get sound, all working in alsamixer...
strangle i think is has to be with some other program because when i installed slack 9.1 and upgraded to slack 10 (same day) fresh install of kernel 2.6.7 (with no alsa support or oss) and alsa-driver.1.5 alsa.utils alsa.libs etc , followed the doc in the alsa site (all ok, no error), when i finished all worked ok, no erros... rebooted and no error, but (i think) after installing arts and some other stuff (to use k3b) i get that error...

can anyone help me to find out what i'm doing wrong ?!!?
