dist upgrade with slackpkg

how can I upgrade slack 10.0 to current using slackpkg

cathectic 06-15-2005 04:30 AM

1) Set a mirror for -current in /etc/slackpkg/mirrors

2) Make sure *at least* the following are in /etc/slackpkg/blacklist

(aaa packages are only for fresh installs. You should really only upgrade the kernel if you know what you're doing, and the alsa packages are always tied to a specific kernel.)

3) Run:

slackpkg upgrade slackware

Thanx for replay, I also need to know how can I install KDE, before upgrading to 10.1 KDE wasn't installed,
I tried
slackpkg install KDE but that didn't work.

thanx again...

I forgot to say you need to run 'slackpkg update' first (always run that before you run 'update' so that slackpkg updates the list of packages available).

Also, it's case sensitive, use 'slackpkg install kde'

I tried slackpkg install KDE and slackpkg install kde but still it's not working...
Any other ideas?

You could try slackpkg search kde

Here is the problem, actually I didn't upgrade to slack 10.1 but to slack-current, so I tried to do a search with 10.1 server
and slackpkg found the kde packages but with a slack-current server, it can't, so what to do?
any ideas?

Regardless of the specific branch you are upgrading, I think just typing 'kde' isn't enough. I would thinhk you need to be more specific such as 'kde-base' or whatever you need. I'd check the package browser to get a real package name then try it in slackpkg with that instead of the generic 'kde'.
