Disabling Mail notification

How do I disable mail notification for my user but still have it enabled for other users? It screws me up constantly since have fetchmail set to download mail at intervals, and I have lots and lots of mail that it doesn't stop for minutes.

Do you mean in bash? Try:
export MAILCHECK="no"

When I'm doing something on the CLI, when a message arrives, it always displays something like:

I'm thinking I have to set something in .bashrc to disable it, but I don't know where to start.
