Why does "echo ATDT 1234567 >/dev/modem" not make the modem connected dial out? "echo ATZ0 >/dev/modem" causes the modem lights to flash, and it does reset. Is there a way I can just get the modem to dial a number for me? No I don't want to connect to a server.

No I did not use quotation marks on the command line.
I tried single quotes as you suggested but nothing happened. I do not get a prompt back either. Yes I have write and execute permissions for the device.
