Your win modem may or may not work. Take a look at linmodems.org. If it works, you can use kppp to setup an internet connection.

Oh! I tried kppp! And even entered some values, but I DON'T KNOW: HAVE I entered the right values. Does anybody here use dial-up connection??? AAAAH!!! I've got no provider, i just call the number (using common username) and connect to SLOW Internet with no mailbox (except free one).
This Internet is provided by our city telephone company. That's the stupidiest way to connect, but... would Internet be free as Linux...

Mmmm... pppsetup asks to enter my I.P. Adress, but this telephone company registers me with different IPs. Today it's 217.116.137.183. Yesterday it was 217.116.140.199! How to be???

Ok, i didn't succeed, of course. Can u help me?
It asks about callback. What is it in my case? (i answered no)
It asks about InternetServiceProvider domain name ( i just typed what came
first in my mind - "kuzbass.net" - but I repeat: I just call number, telcompany
logs me in and What domain name it has???)
And what's PAP/CHAP? in my case? I chose SCRIPT.

Seems like you only have your ISP username, password and phone number, so i would suggest try again with kppp BUT, before doing that figure out wich modem model is yours, because it should need a linux driver.
If you're dual booting with win2k, go to hardware manager and check on modem properties.

Hi Kornerr,
I have the same problem like you.
I stay in Singapore, and the telephone company provided with a Windows EXE file which connects to the web, when all I need to enter are the username, password. (default phone no.).
I can also connect to the local university's internet service, in which case all I need are the user name, pass word & phone number.
Neither of these providers have given out their domain server IPs.
My thoughts on this:
===============
1. Using FreeBSD I can connect if I have the Username, Password and TelNo. (No not from KPPP, but from FreeBSD's ppp).
2. I don't need the domain server IPs. FreeBSD will auto negotiate it.
3. I can't think of a single Linux distro that can do this.
4. Winmodems are faster than external modems.
Why don't you check with your local LUG?
bye

If you are going to use kppp don't run pppsetup at all. You should probably clear out /etc/ppp and reinstall ppp and kdenetwork if you have used pppsetup already and want to use kppp.
if you#d rather not usee kppp, I have hacked pppsetup to work with dynamic DNS:

you can find the IP's of the DNS servers of your ISP from windows.
just connect to the internet in windows, open a terminal (cmd) and do
ipconfig /all
