dhcpd and dynamic dns update problem
hello everyone,
i'm running this linux router gateway on a slack13 old machine h/w... it appears that the dhcpd server doesn't receive client hostnames correctly and as such it doesn't provide the right data to BIND... in the end the whole setup doesn't do what i would like; ie. the dhcpd to attach the hostname of each client to the domain name of my internal network ... so that then i can use that fully qualified domain name to access that client.... please read this recent post in linux/server.. that never got a proper answer... just a dispute between 2 senior members for no reason http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...rectly-801840/ i am basically looking for some pointers and perhaps a top level examination.... ie 'that i have dhcpd.conf contains smth wrong' or that 'the clients do not do the handshake the proper way... thank you for your help |
This may help some http://www.debianadmin.com/howto-set...in-debian.html basically you have to tell bind to allow dhcp to update your zone. You may also want to consider using dnsmasq it may be easyier to setup for a home network than dhcp/bind.

I responded to your thread in "Linux Server" nass: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...rectly-801840/. Hopefully it is useful to you.
