dhcpcd question

Recently, my router puked on an update, and I had to log in via a wired network card. I ran dhcpcd a couple of times to see if a server was up (it wasn't) and after failing to connect it took some apparently random IP, which showed up in the output of 'route'

In those circumstances, is there a way to configure the address it assigns itself?

EDIT: I sorted the router btw.

Your card will probably have auto-configured itself with an address somewhere in range 169.254.0.0/16. In that case, you may want to read up on Link Local addresses: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Link-l...ess_assignment

Yep, that's what it did. I was thinking of reconfiguring it to my internal network, buit I see why it's there, so leaving it is no harm. It also mean I have to do nothing.
