Desktop goes black when switching with KVM

I've recently added a dual monitor KVM (LDV-DM04ESK) to my setup. My motherboard has three monitor outputs, one VGA (not switched), one DVI-D, and one HDMI converted to DVI for the KVM (both switched at the same time). When I boot my system all three monitors and desktop work as expected. Once I switch to another computer, all three monitors are black when I switch back and only rebooting will get them back. How can I hard save the monitor configuration and prevent X and/or KDE automagic defection. I'm using Slackware64-current from August 2017 and radeon open source kernel module and X drivers.

I can't answer your question about the KVM switch, since I haven't used one in over 10 years, but have you tried using ssh to check the logs like dmesg or /var/log/Xorg.0.log?

Is there a reason you're keeping your -current install at an August 2017 state? That means you're running a lot of software that had security vulnerabilities that were patched in later versions of -current. Since -current is such a moving target (since it is an unstable development branch that leads up to the next stable release), it may be hard to keep up to date with it, and in those cases, I would suggest switching to a stable release, which right now, the latest is 14.2. Any security updates are likely to cause you no issues as they are thoroughly tested before being pushed out.

Since -current is the development branch, so it could be the version you're on had issues with the graphics that might not be an issue in the latest version or on the latest stable.

Did the kvm ever work as expected? Does it hold the video in a state equal to what you have set?
