Desktop effects in KDE4 keep resetting
Hi all,
I have installed the new KDE4 desktop and it's looking good, However, every time I login, the desktop effects are disabled. Using system settings, I can enable them again, only for them to be disabled again at the next login. I have done the usual things that I would advise when errant kde problems occur, e.g. backup/delete my .kde directory, and allowing kde to start afresh, but to no avail.
Anybody got any idea if there are hidden config files that I could perhaps look at to see what might be happening that stops the settings being stored?

An update,
If I edit the hidden file ./kde/shar/config/kwin.rc and set desktops effects to enable=true, and then write protect it, then at login, I now get the effects working, but with an error message telling me that my kwin.rc file is not writable. However, if I leave it writable, then for some reason, the enable=true flag gets reset to enable=false. How do I find out what is causing the file to be re-written?
Where you configured your session manager, further down there's the window manager section. Have you changed the window manager there from KWin to Compiz?

As far as I was aware, KDE4 uses it's own compositing support, and doesn't rely on Compiz. Besides, as I said in my post, write protecting the kwin.rc file allows desktop effects to operate, albeit with the associated error, and all whilst kwin is chosen as the window manager. Still need to find out what is rewriting the file at startup
