Desktop drive shortcuts in DLG 2.20.2

Before upgrading to the official 2.20.2 DLG build last night, I had been using the 2.20 beta build for some time. During this time, I had drive shortcuts enabled on my desktop that pointed to both my main Reiserfs drive and my automatically mounted NTFS drive for windows. I had not done anything special to enable these, as they seemed to have been automatically set up by the initial Dropline installation. However, when I upgraded to the official release, these drive icons disappeared. I am not too familiar with what goes on behind the scenes, but I would like to re-enable these drive shortcuts on my desktop again. What do I need to do to make this happen?

I also posted this on the Dropline forum, but if anyone here knows of what I need to do, it would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Default is enabled but you can check:

Application->System Tools->Configuration Manager
apps->nautilus->desktop->volumes_visible

I checked this setting and it is enabled by default, however my volumes do not appear on the desktop. Any other suggestions?

Update: After uninstalling and reinstalling DLG 2.20.2, the drive shortcuts once again appear on the desktop. I don't know what the issue was, but perhaps it was best to completely remove the prior beta version components and reinstall with the official release.

Possibly. There's a HAL bug that causes it to not always correctly tell the rest of the system the exact nature of a number of filesystems, with the result being that the DE winds up showing you filesystem icons it shouldn't and vice-versa.

Basically, fixed disks with filesystems that are already mounted are not supposed* to be getting a desktop icon. The only filesystems that are supposed to be getting a desktop icon by default are those which are automagically mounted, like whatever the kernel finds on removable media (e.g., optical discs, thumbdrives, floppies, etc).

We've got a file in that snuffs the issue in almost all cases, sitting in /usr/share/hal/fdi/policy/10osvendor/99-dropline-storage-policy-fixed-drives.fdi which is part of the dropline-version-2.20.0 package.

* - On my devel desktop box, this particular bug is really annoying, because I wind up with 20+ filesystem icons.

That's interesting. I didn't realize that it was an issue with HAL. I didn't remember having these icons in earlier versions of Slackware/Dropline GNOME, but after having getting used to them it has become somewhat of a convenience just to access the drives from the desktop, rather than from Nautilus. The only drive that appears is my NTFS volume for Windows, and not the Reiserfs drive (which is what I am using for Slackware). I only have two internal drives, but could imagine that it would be somewhat of a nuisance to have 20+ drive shortcuts on your desktop as you've mentioned.
