Hello all,

I'm administering a cluster of Dell Poweredge 1850 servers running Slackware 8, and one of the nodes went down yesterday under mysterious circumstances that left the orange warning light blinking. All signs point to a hardware problem, but before Dell will send anyone out to fix the server, I need to run their "Dellset" diognostic utility. Unfortunately, Slackware is not supported for this utility, and any time I try to run it I get an error that reads "Error: RPM had a problem installing or upgrading DSET. Aborting". I realize that having software requirements to run a hardware diagnostic makes no sense, but I'm afraid I have to find a way through. Has anyone else run this utility? The actual name of the file they sent me is delldset_v1.1.bin, any help would be much appreciated.

Is the file an rpm? You could try converting it to a tgz with rpm2tgz.

Considering that in the UNIX world, extensions don't mean a thing, you may have to run file on it (from console or terminal run: "file delldset_v1.1.bin") to learn what kind of file it is. Please post the output of the command, so we can help you better.

I'd guess it's either a self-extract tarball or a statically linked executable, but I'm likely wrong.
