Please help Pat to release Ver 14.0 by Thursday. That way I'll have Friday to download and the while weekend to install and play.

This is relevant to my intentions.

Since we are so close, why not install now? And if you don find an issue, you have a chance of reporting it and getting it fixed.

I'm still worrying about the "jdk-7u7 crashing Firefox 15.0.1" problem, and about the invisible NetworkManager WiFi icon in KDE.
Although I know that they worked before the latest updates, I no longer have the old packages to revert to.

I won't be worrying about Firefox 15.0.1, I shall be compiling and installing 3.6.28. I did try Firefox 7 or 8 a while back and it crashed on me. Just the once and it shouldn't have. So I replaced it with 3.6.28. It works and no issues for me.

I also eagerly await the arrival of 14.0 so I can play with it to my hearts content over the weekend. Having tried other distros I find Slackware is my preferred one. It works, it's rock solid, it works out of the box.

I started using it back in the nineties when it came on a few floppies. There were boot and root disks and you had to configure your kernel and compile it. It was fun, even though I didn't really know what I was doing, but I learnt. Then I left it for a while, used a few other distros (and Windows) along the way then came back to Slackware, around version 7 or 8 I think. I have stuck with it ever since. Love it.

@dragonnefyre: 3.6.28 is not supported and hence not receiving security updates. I wouldn't run an unsupported browser, you are just asking for trouble. If you want an older Firefox you should consider 10.0.7esr.

I am everyday Java developer and still keep my self far away from Java 7 - too buggy for my enterprise setups. Java 6 works very well and reccmmend it for desktops as well.

In another post: Missed that one. Today is my work Friday. This weekend? To calm my installing tendencies I installed CentOS, updated and got a missing dependency error. *sigh*

If there is no 14, I'll take a run at the RC. Maybe... I think Ubuntu released something....

@ruario: thank you, I will download and install 10.0.7esr when I can find it. I use Opera most of the time, my preferred browser, but some sites don't play nice.

One other thing - where can I get the latest Slackware RC, is it in current? Thank you in advance.

I use a lot of the programs avaialble via SlackBuilds and not sure what would break if I started building with the 13.37 scripts, or even how to go about doing so.

Do I just install Slackware current and pull the 13.37 scripts?

They may or they may not. Some programs will still work on 14. At the moment a lot of SlackBuilds for 13.37 are getting tested and patched for 14.

It's not really recommended but you could grab SlackBuilds for 13.37 and try to build it on -current. It'll work with SOME packages.
