Daylight Saving Time. A reminder for U.S. Slackware Users. :)

Here we go again.

Just a reminder that the U.S. will go on Daylight Saving Time, Sunday morning 12 March 2023. The clocks will be set forward one hour at 02:00am in each U.S. time zone. See the following link for more information and any exceptions.
https://www.timeanddate.com/time/change/usa?year=2023
They will go back on Standard Time on 5 November 2023.

Angry DST can fsck itself sideways, and then go die horribly!

I wish DST would die, I am tired of losing an hour of sleep for no reason. "Oh but an extra hour during the eve---" yea shut up! - Go out earlier and do what you need to do like a normal human or something. Stop screwing with my sleep cycle / circadian rhythm over something that really has no real benefit! ...... Rant over.

Not the entire country - believe it or not there are SOME states that have the good sense and NOT observe this retarded practice (and no to the mods, i will NOT retract that word) ...There is no point to it at all!

Sadly I live in a state that still observe this pointless endeavor. Texas

Yea in case it didn't dawn on those - I absolutely dislike DST and wish it were gone.

All of Canada? I was hoping maybe at least one province up there would have the good sense to stop this pointless practice.....

Not me. I live near the edge of a time-zone boundary that favors DST in the summer months.

I want to stay on DST year round (or move to Pacific Standard with no DST) though. ;-)

Move to Phoenix AZ - they do not observe DST - and just go to PST from MTN when other parts of AZ change to DST.

Technically Texas can opt out just like AZ and HI but by law you can only be on standard time. Write to your representative.

Regarding the Sunshine Protection Act. While most agree that having a fixed time should be implemented there is no consensus as to whether it should be standard or daylight saving which is basically why the house let die. There have been several times a permanent DST was implemented but every time it didn't end well. As far as I can tell it really isn't about saving energy but what group prefers more light in the morning or evening.

The "Saving energy" is a myth, just like how it was somehow the Kaiser's idea back in WWI (hey I only bring up anecdotal evidence), I myself never claimed to believe it was because of him, and turns out it was actually Benjamin Franklin - but nowhere does it really state any actual benefits. The other theory was for the farmers, but that also turned out to be bunk - farmers even indicated it had no real impact, or the impact was actually negative towards production for farmers.

I'll just keep it at that, as not to get too political - but I still stand by my statement , it is pointless. There is no benefits to energy savings - and regardless during the summer heat - people will still be cranking their air conditioners in some parts of the country.

It has no benefit - and I have also written my reps here in TX , we should just stick with standard time - DST is pointless.

https://www.timeanddate.com/time/dst/history.html (here you see the argument towards farmers and the so-called benefits , but yea whatever..)

I don't care whether we put the emphasis on the mornings or evenings, I just want the clocks to stop moving around. For those of us on the west coast, DST is (slowly) coming to an end....

I avoid the problem by making localtime UTC. Side benefit is I don't have to roll out of bed until 1200.
