Custom Installation Disk

I have a PDC20376 sata controller on my mobo. For that reason slack's installer does not detect any hd. Since 2.6 kernels supports my controler I thouht I could buid a custom kernel and insert it in the tree. I know how to build it and make the iso disk after, but how do I insert the kernel into the tree?
Thanks for any help
