-current (Tue Apr 21) and bumblebee

I am getting a few reports that there are issues with the last batch of updates and the bumblebee packages.

The last one saying:
modprobe error could not insert bbswitch unknown symbol

I wanted to start a thread to track this, and for anyone with issues to post to. Also, if you are upgraded and it works for you, that is useful as well.

I expect to be trying this myself next week and will be updating this issue as I can.

willysr 04-25-2015 10:01 AM

probably because of the new usb_modeswitch?

ryanpcmcquen 04-25-2015 11:19 AM

I will be trying again with the April 25 ISO (or whatever is the most current) after Linuxfest is over this weekend.

Here is a photo of the actual error:

And yes, it was on the default kernel.

Here is the actual error:
Code:

modprobe: ERROR: could not insert 'bbswitch': Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)
Unfortunately I didn't check dmesg and that install has been wiped, but I will be doing some heavy testing this week.

im using automated here but an error occured in first time, solved with reintall via STABLE=yes parameter

I am using the 4.0.0 kernel from testing with some modifications and the whitewolf's slackbuilds from bumblebee.
It's working fine until now.
My graphic card is 610M.

Are you on stable or current?

frushiyama 04-27-2015 09:35 AM

Current, mutilib updated 20150425.

So far what I am seeing is this... on x64, the native 64bit apps seem to work just fine.

The x86 apps do not, including primusrun /usr/bin/32/glxgears

I can get this to run... sorta.. by doing PRIMUS_UPLOAD=1 primusrun /usr/bin/32/glxgears but in many cases this still doesn't work for x86 apps.

Steam is also giving some odd error, even when run without primus:
Code:

OpenGL GLX context is not using direct rendering, which may cause performance problems.

For more information visit https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=9938-EYZB-7457.
Press enter to continue:

Still looking into a fix, if you have any info or anything to add, feel free to toss it on this thread. As x64 native seems fine, i'm looking into what multilib issues may be causing this.

Just got HL2 working in Steam.

This is in the launch options:
Code:

PRIMUS_UPLOAD=1 primusrun %command%
I ran this little script I just wrote based on the Debian wiki: https://gist.github.com/ryanpcmcquen...08a23422379e23

I am also running 349.16, latest primus, and changed the setting in bumblebee.conf to use /usr/lib & /usr/lib64 under the primus paths. Oh, and I also made those changes to the primus build I sent you WhiteWolf1776.

http://sprunge.us/TRXZ

And I have kernel 3.19.5. The main fixes are the Steam lib removal and PRIMUS_UPLOAD (I think).

WhiteWolf1776 04-28-2015 07:24 PM

And after running your cleanup steam script, dota2 also loads as long as i launch it the same way... also prey, doom3, etc. (prey needed similar cleanup, rm libgcc_s.so.1 from the prey top folder)

Guess it is at least a livable solution until things get sorted out.

ryanpcmcquen 04-30-2015 08:32 AM

It appears that:

Code:

PRIMUS_UPLOAD=2
is even better. I have a script for that (as a global setting) as well, at the same github link above.

The only thing STABLE does is:

1. Install older versions.
2. Install libvdpau, which is now part of Slackware.
