true, however this is definitely NOT the reason why there's been nothing happening in current for a month now...

i hope he's alright and stuff... =(

At the end of his Nov 5 changelog he said

Quote:
There, now hopefully we can start getting some REAL work done around here again soon...
He has something in mind, maybe moving everything to 2.6.x kernel (and even gcc 4)? I don't want to think that he's having health problems again .

yeah, me neither... i'm kinda hoping this lack of activity has something to do with "the big recompile" that so many of us have been fantasizing about for so long... hehe... but wait, gcc 4.x?? i would have imagined it would be gcc 3.4.x, as that's the version which was included in testing in the slackware 10.2 release?? also, i am not an expert in any way, but what i've read on the web suggests that gcc 4.x is currently nowhere near as stable as any of the previous versions and won't be for quite a while - so using that version might give patrick some unnecessary headaches and stuff IMHO... i'd leave the 4.x to Fedora and the like...

Yes I know, gcc 4.x would be a bit too new to be included in Slack. Still, the switch to 2.6.x should be big enough to keep Pat busy for a while.

udev is still a rapidly moving target, one of th reasons given for 10.2 sticking with 2.4.x

It's a girl! :-)

I know a lot of you have been wondering what's going on here, and the news
is that my wife Andrea delivered our first child, a daughter Briah Cecilia
(briah at slackware dot com :-) on 2005-11-22, and that event (and the weeks
that led up to it) has had to take priority over the usual tasks of
download/compile/test/package/upload. But, things should be getting back to
normal here (more or less) over the next couple of weeks, particularly after
the holiday season has come and gone. As you might expect, there are a lot of
friends and relatives who want to see her. :-)

Thanks for your patience, and we now return you to your regularly scheduled
ChangeLog...
