current: libdvdread.so

As of the latest libdvdread upgrade I'm getting a lot of these:
Code:

error while loading shared libraries: libdvdread.so.7: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
(MPlayer, k3b,…)

I made a first-aid symlink to libdvdread.so.8.0.0.

I just noticed this too.

libdvdnav is a candidate too, some binaries use libdvdread through libdvdnav (e.g MPlayer)

the 6.1.x releases of the two libraries libdvdread and libdvdnav pretty much break EVERYTHING dvd. I rebuilt xine-ui just to try to get it to play a dvd and no go. Even the videolan.org page still says the 6.0.x releases are current, which leads me to believe the 6.1.x releases are not-quite-ready-for-prime-time development releases.

REQUEST TO PAT: Can we please revert these two libraries back to the 6.0.x releases until videolan.org gets the revisions right? Thank you.

UPDATE: I take back SOME of what I said. libdvdnav needs to be rebuilt against the new libdvdread, and any package that links to it need to be rebuilt as well. But a lot of older DVD packages that link to libdvd{read, nav} are at the very least going to have to be updated/patched to handle the new version.

Thanks for the info!
I remcompiled libdvdnav and libdvdread dependent packages (except k3b). Everything is fine so far.

+1 Here (newcomer to slackware).

I have: Slackware 14.2+ installed in my hard disk from liveslack (AlienBob)

Most recent Changelog recompiled Mplayer against libdvdread-6.1.1,

After slackpkg upgrade process I got from Mplayer

mplayer: /usr/lib64/libOpenCL.so.1: no version information available (required by /usr/lib64/libavutil.so.56)
mplayer: /usr/lib64/libOpenCL.so.1: no version information available (required by /usr/lib64/libavutil.so.56)

Any advice to get rid of this warnings?

Thanks in advance.

Francisco.

This was resolved in latest current update from tonight
l/libdvdnav-6.1.0-x86_64-2.txz: Rebuilt.
Recompiled against libdvdread-6.1.1.
Who bumps an .soname and only boosts the version number by 0.0.1?
Anyway, sorry to drop the ball a second time. I'll try to avoid this.
Thanks to gmgf for the bug report.

People who don't understand the point of symantic versioning, but use major.minor.patch anyway: because they think it looks cool.
