CUPS server error

I just un-tarred the CUPS package from the Slackware 10 CD.

When I try to go to localhost:631 I get...

An error occurred while loading http://localhost:631/:
Could not connect to host localhost (port 631)

When I try to set up my printer with CUPS I get the following report....

Unable to retrieve the printer list. Error message received from manager:
Connection to CUPS server failed. Check that the CUPS server is correctly installed and running. Error: connection refused.

When I try to start the CUPS server I get....

Unable to restart print server. Error message received from manager:
Unable to find a running CUPS server

Any suggestions?

Like the message said, you need to check if the cupsd service is running. Also check if the firewall is allowing local traffic to port 631.

Check that /etc/rc.d/rc.cups is marked as executable. Once it is, to start CUPS, as root, type

/etc/rc.d/rc.cups start

Thank you. I now have the CUPS scheduler running.
