crontab -e doesn't work after upgrade

Greetings,

This has happened to me before, but now it has happened again upgrading from Slackware 10.2 to 11.0.

When I edit root's crontab via crontab -e, the changes _never_ get reflected in the actual file /var/spool/cron/crontabs/root. In the past, I've just worked around this problem by editing /var/spool/cron/crontabs/root manually. I can certainly continue to do this, but I'd like to figure out why it doesn't work. :-)

Has anyone else had & solved this problem?

Lo and behold,

set backupcopy=yes

in /usr/share/vim/vimrc does the trick.

Thank you.

imho slightly better way will be:

Code:
set backupskip+=/var/spool/cron/*
in /usr/share/vim/vimrc, and it would be much better if it is a default setup in the vim package.

This will disable the backup feature for files in /var/spool/cron/ where dcron puts its temporary crontab files and leaves the backup feature on for those who like it. btw, default vim build adds /tmp to backupskip option for the same "crontab reason" - some other distributions' crontab puts the temporary files there.
